Edge slides
Four edges, two directions each: apps, tabs, volume, brightness or any shortcut. Every step clicks under your finger.
For MacBook with Apple Silicon
Slide along an edge to switch apps or tabs. Tap a corner for Mission Control. Draw a letter to open an app. Hotpad turns the parts of the trackpad you never use into shortcuts — the middle stays a normal trackpad.

Slide along the top edge. Each step moves Cmd+Tab one app; lift to switch.
Why edges?
The first two are from a week of the author’s own usage, measured with Hotpad’s local stats.
Four edges, two directions each: apps, tabs, volume, brightness or any shortcut. Every step clicks under your finger.
A quick tap in a corner: Mission Control, play/pause, close tab, or mute your mic in the middle of a call.
Three-finger tap, then draw a letter to open an app, a folder or a website. Teach it your own shapes in a few strokes.
Five-finger tap turns the right half into a number pad for spreadsheets and calculators. The left half keeps working.
Scroll over the menu bar to change volume, rest the cursor in a corner to show the desktop. Works with a mouse too.
Edges stay quiet while you type, and large touches count as a resting palm, so nothing fires by accident.
No banners, no floating icons. Each step clicks gently through the trackpad’s own haptics. When you draw, you see your stroke — green if it worked. That’s all.

No. The middle of the trackpad works exactly as before: clicks, scrolling, pinch, swipes between spaces. Hotpad only reacts to one finger that starts right at an edge or in a corner, plus the three- and five-finger taps, which you can turn off.
MacBooks with Apple Silicon (M1 and newer) running macOS 13 Ventura or later.
An email with your license key and a download link, right away. Open Hotpad, paste the key, done. The same key works on up to three of your Macs.
Yes. The trial has every feature for 7 days and asks for no card or email. If you buy later, enter the key and everything you set up stays.
Hotpad reads raw finger positions from the trackpad, which App Store apps aren’t allowed to do. It is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it like any other app.
Nothing leaves your Mac. There is no account and no analytics. Hotpad needs Accessibility permission to press shortcuts for you, and it only goes online to check your license key.
